Dr. Karen Swanson

Director, Correctional Ministries Institute

Karen oversees the Charles W. Colson Scholarship Program and pursues the goals of CMI through networks, collaboration, and strategic partnerships that provide leadership and training to those engaged in correctional ministries for the advancement of the gospel.

Karen has more than 25 years of higher education experience and faculty status. Karen is an author, conference workshop speaker, and has developed training curriculum.

She holds an Ed.D. in Curriculum Leadership from Northern Illinois University and certifications in Justice Ministries, Motivational Interviewing, Moral Reconation Therapy, Bridges Out of Poverty, Truthought, and Anger Management. Karen co-founded the Correctional Ministries and Chaplains Association.

Peter Kim

Associate Director, Correctional Ministries Institute

Peter Kim is the Associate Director of the Correctional Ministries Institute and is a licensed clinical social worker by trade. Peter graduated Wheaton college after an untraditional path through school, where he was blessed to receive the Chuck Colson Scholarship, and graduated Magna Cum Laude. He went on to get his Masters from the University of Chicago for his degree in Social Work. Peter knows his true calling is to help the incarcerated population and lead them to God, just as he was led. Peter considers himself blessed and humble that God has chosen him and allowed him to minister to people who are addicted to substances and need a path forward. Peter is married with three young children and resides in the northern suburbs of Chicago.
