If the U.S. had 100 people: Charting Americans’ religious affiliations
What would the religious make-up of the United States look like if the country were just a small town of 100 people?  If the U.S. had only 100 people, 62 of them would be Christian, according to a new Pew Research Center blog post. Meanwhile, 29 people would be religiously unaffiliated (atheists, agnostics, or people who identify religiously as “nothing in particular.”) Another seven people would identify with non-Christian religions, including Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism.  The post, which is based on the 2023-24 Religious Landscape Study, also looks at U.S. religious affiliation by age, gender and other demographic traits.

Rising Spiritual Openness in America
In an October 2022 Barna survey of 2,000 U.S. adults, three out of four (74%) say they want to grow spiritually. Additionally, the same proportion (77%) say they believe in a higher power. Nearly half (44%) say they are more open to God today than before the pandemic

Faith’s Shrinking Influence: What 25 Years of Data Reveals
In recent reporting, Barna has reported encouraging signs of spiritual openness in America—especially among younger adults. Yet when we widen the lens, a more complex picture emerges. Barna’s analysis of data from 2000 to 2025 shows that several core indicators of Christian conviction—the importance of religious faith, Christian identity, monthly church attendance and evangelism efforts—have weakened.
